In 2000, the first robot-assisted prostatectomy was performed and since then this method has become very popular, especially in the United States.
Robotically-assisted surgery was developed to enhance the capabilities of surgeons. Compared with other minimally invasive surgery approaches, robot-assisted surgery gives the surgeon better control over the surgical instruments and a better view of the surgical site.
It has been criticized for its high expense, since it doesn´t offer a marked difference in results when compared with laparoscopic surgery, but definitely it´s the most modern method of treating many urological diseases.
