In laparoscopy, the access to the abdominal organs is achieved through small skin incisions, which allow the insertion of a camera and some surgical instruments. With this approach, it´s possible to prevent the traditional large incisions, thus minimizing pain, physical limitations and also undesirable unaesthetic scars.

Almost all the surgical procedures that were traditionally associated with large incisions now can be performed through laparoscopy. The surgeon must have critical judgement in deciding when the minimally invasive techniques are both feasible and safe for the treatment of any specific disease.
